Mancozeb is a broad-spectrum protective dithiocarbamate fungicide developed and promoted by Rohm and Haas (USA, now part of Corteva) in the 1960s. It is a coordination complex of maneb and zineb. It is one of the best-selling non-systemic fungicides globally and is often used as a base component in combination formulations.
Mode of Action:
Mancozeb is classified as Group M3 by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) and acts as a multi-site inhibitor. The agent converts into active substances such as methyl isothiocyanate on the plant surface or within pathogenic fungi. It reacts with various sulfhydryl (-SH) containing enzymes and coenzymes in fungal cells, interfering with normal metabolism and energy production, thereby inhibiting spore germination and mycelial growth. Due to its multiple sites of action, it is extremely difficult for pathogens to develop resistance.
Target Diseases and Application Scope:
Applicable Crops: Vegetables (such as tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers), fruit trees (such as apples, grapes), cotton, wheat, and ornamental plants.
Controlled Diseases: Shows excellent efficacy against various diseases caused by Oomycetes, Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, and Deuteromycetes, such as potato late blight, tomato early blight, apple alternaria leaf spot, grape downy mildew, wheat rust, and various leaf spots.
Characteristics: A purely protective fungicide with no systemic translocation; application must be uniform and thorough. It has a relatively long residual period and is rainfast. In addition to its fungicidal properties, it can supplement crops with trace elements manganese and zinc, promoting dark green and robust leaves. It is often mixed with systemic fungicides (such as metalaxyl, dimethomorph, difenoconazole) to compensate for its lack of curative activity.
