Chlorfenapyr is a novel pyrrole insecticide and acaricide, also known as fenpyroximate, developed by American Cyanamid (USA, now part of BASF) in the 1980s.
Mode of Action:
Chlorfenapyr is classified as Group 13 by the Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) and acts as a mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation uncoupler. After entering the insect body, it is converted into an active metabolite by mixed-function oxidases, which disrupts the mitochondria's ability to produce energy (ATP), leading to cell depletion and death. It has contact and stomach poison activity, along with certain penetrability.
Target Pests and Application Scope:
Applicable Crops: Vegetables (such as cruciferous and solanaceous crops), cotton, fruit trees, and ornamental plants.
Controlled Pests: Shows excellent efficacy against Lepidoptera pests (such as diamondback moth, beet armyworm, Spodoptera litura) and mites (such as two-spotted spider mites). It is particularly effective against resistant pest populations.
Characteristics: Good speed of action and a relatively long residual period. Since it converts into active substances within plants, it may cause phytotoxicity to certain crops (such as melons and cabbage seedlings) under high temperatures or high concentrations; therefore, dosage and application temperature must be strictly controlled. It is highly toxic to fish and is prohibited in aquaculture areas.
