Butroxydim is a selective cyclohexanedione herbicide first launched by Zeneca (now Syngenta Crop Protection) in 1995. It is suitable for post-emergence control of grass weeds in broadleaf crops.
Mode of Action:
Butroxydim is classified as a Group A herbicide by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) (WSSA Group 1) and acts as an acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitor, exerting its effect by inhibiting the activity of ACCase. After foliar application, it is rapidly absorbed through the leaves, translocated to meristematic tissues, and inhibits the biosynthesis of branched-chain fatty acids and flavonoids in sensitive plants. This interferes with cell division, disrupts the activity of plant meristems, and slows down plant growth. One to three weeks after application, the plants exhibit chlorosis and necrosis, followed by leaf desiccation and death. Since ACCase is a target enzyme unique to grass plants, it is safe for broadleaf crops.
Target Weeds and Application Scope:
(1) Applicable Crops: Soybeans, cotton, peanuts, rapeseed, sugar beets, sunflowers, vegetables, and other broadleaf crops.
(2) Butroxydim is a post-emergence selective herbicide that effectively controls a series of annual grass weeds, such as crabgrass, foxtail, goosegrass, barnyardgrass, blackgrass, wild oat, and ryegrass. Butroxydim is ineffective against broadleaf weeds and has excellent efficacy only against grass weeds.
Main Formulations:
Butroxydim 25% WG
